What's my name?
My name is Julia Calabrese.
What do I study?
I'm a pre-service teacher at Flinders University studying a double degree in Education (R-7 and Special Education) and Disability Studies.
Why do I study teaching?
To be a leader to the younger generations, advocate for the rights of people with disabilities and to encourage thinking about 21st century perspectives.
Where do I work?
I work at a low SES secondary school in the northern suburbs of Adelaide. In my role, I support students with disabilities to gain a better understanding of their schoolwork. I work towards building strong relationships, confidence and independence in my students.
What's ahead of me?
In November 2015, I'll be engaging in a study with a group of Flinders University students to Indonesia. On this trip we will be engaging with Indonesian language and culture and teaching ESL in an Indonesian school.
In 2016, I will be undertaking my final teaching placement in a special education setting and completing my course of study.
