Engage in professional learning and improve practice
The certificates below illustrate the initiative that I have taken to engage with professional learning and how this learning has influenced my practice. Professional learning is a necessary practice in order to keep my skills updated and to learn about new research and policies.
| Training at SPELD (SA) Inc.I took the initiative to complete this training course about early years language learning as I recognised this was an area that I had limited knowledge in and wanted to expand my skills in. I found this course to be a valuable professional learning activity as I learnt about the fundamentals of reading and writing, professionals to consult for specific difficulties, and strategies to support students. This training has been beneficial to my teaching as I now have a better understanding of the areas of reading and writing that students need to develop skills in, and appropriate strategies to support them with this. Responding to Abuse and Neglect UpdateThe RAN update has updated my understanding about my role in preventing and responding to child abuse and neglect. This training is integral to the responsibilities that teachers have to care for student well-being. I am a better educator from doing this training as I have the tools, resources and strategies to respond to child abuse and neglect. Connect.ed TrainingIn completing this training, I developed new knowledge in the internet and the law, school policies, cybersafety, students as digital citizens, and cyberbullying. I found this training to be particularly important as technology is an increasingly prevalent part of students' education. The resources and knowledge that I gained from this training has assisted me in teaching students how to protect their safety online and to communicate openly with adults about their actions on the internet. I used a number of resources from this training in a blog post that I wrote to parents, titled 'Technology and ICT at home'. E-Learning about the Disability Standards for EducationI completed this course as part of my work at Roma Mitchell Secondary School in the Learning Support team. As part of this training, I developed a greater understanding about how the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standard for Education 2005 influence me as a teacher. This training has influenced my practice as it has helped me to recognise the diversity of different students and how I can best accommodate for different students' needs in the classroom. |
The professional learning that I have completed has enhanced my learning and thus been translated into my professional practice. Engaging in professional learning activities have been valuable in updating my skills and in learning about new research and policies around education.
